One Night. Two Fires. The Midvaal Fire & Rescue Team That Never Stopped.
It started in Dreamland between 17:00 and 18:00 — two loaded trucks and trailers burning for more than two hours, R3 to R4 million in losses, outside their jurisdiction. They dealt with it. Then the call came from Meyerton CBD. A roof collapse. A firefighter who walked back to work. CBNews honours the entire Midvaal Fire & Rescue team.
On the night of 21 July 2026, the Midvaal Fire & Rescue team was first called to Dreamland — outside their jurisdiction — where two fully loaded trucks and trailers were burning. The fire broke out between 17:00 and 18:00 and burned for more than two hours. Estimated losses between R3 and R4 million. They dealt with it. Then the call came from Meyerton CBD. A commercial block fire. They went there too. Two fires. One night. One team.
First Call: Dreamland
Dreamland falls under the jurisdiction of Emfuleni. Not Midvaal's area. Their call, their responsibility. But when two fully loaded trucks and several trailers caught fire between 17:00 and 18:00, Midvaal Fire & Rescue responded. The fire burned for more than two hours. The cause has not yet been identified. The estimated cost of loss is between R3 million and R4 million. Whether Emfuleni crews responded to the scene at all is not something CBNews has been able to confirm at this stage.
"About two trucks were burned down loaded and some trailers and the cause of fire had not yet been identified. The estimated cost of loss is 3 to 4 millions. All this happened in Dreamland. If Emfuleni had a serious rapid response system this loss would have been prevented. Thanks to the Midvaal rapid fire rescue team that came as early as they could even though it is not their area of operation. Functional municipalities are good for us in every aspect."
R3 to R4 million. Loaded trucks. Trailers. Gone. A functioning rapid response from the responsible municipality could have changed that number. What changed it instead was a team from a neighbouring jurisdiction that answered a call they were not obligated to answer.
Then Meyerton Called
After Dreamland, the call came from Meyerton CBD. A commercial block fire on the corner of Gallaway and Loch Street. The building was well alight when crews arrived. They went in anyway.
There is a firefighter in that team who does not want his name in the paper. What he wants is to get on with the job. But the job he was doing when the roof gave way deserves to be on the record.
He was on the roof of the burning building when it gave way. He fell through. He landed on his feet. The debris twisted his ankle. ER24 treated him on scene. He is already back at work.
Dreamland first. Meyerton second. A roof collapse in between. He went back to work. So did everyone else.

What CBNews witnessed at Meyerton was a coordinated response. Midvaal Fire & Rescue, SAPS, ER24 and traffic officers on the same scene, working without confusion. Four buildings sustained fire damage — the SASSA Meyerton Local Office, Crazy Store, Fashion World and Sweets Land. The block held. No lives were lost.
The people who stopped it from doing more damage had already dealt with Dreamland. They did not have to go to either scene. They went to both.
